Responsibilities:

The Associate Director, Commercial Learning Services (CLS) provides strategic direction for L&D related projects and capabilities within the Commercial Learning Services organization. Specifically, this role is responsible for innovation, governance, and transformation related training for an assigned team. This role will be responsible for the initial development and ongoing training as it relates to Customer Office initiatives, capabilities, process, and implementation of Customer Office work.

Cross-functional collaboration and consulting with key business partners, Lilly Capability Center India (LCCI), US based CLS team members, Lilly vendors, Customer Office business partners and SMEs, reviewers and approvers is required to ensure alignment between the CLS learning strategy and implementation needs.

Key Objectives/Deliverables

Performance Consultant:

  • Single point of contact with the business for Commercial Learning Services end to end solutions.
  • Translates business needs to systematic and sustainable learning solutions.
  • Partner with business leaders, brand teams and Customer Office organization to create a prioritized list of learning list of projects. Revisit and reprioritize as needed (quarterly at a minimum).
  • Lead a portfolio of projects to ensure the on-time, on-budget creation of deliverables that meet quality standards, follow instructional design principles, and meet the needs of the business and learner.
  • Consult with key business partners to leverage core-learning initiatives aligned to business needs. These initiatives will inform short and long-range training plans.
  • Influence and guide decision-making through collaboration
  • Leverage CLS learning strategy and adult learning principles to scope, design, and implement training as needed to support all functions.
  • Use an agile mindset and methodology (rapid pace and evolving content development) to manage initiatives.
  • Conduct needs assessments to balance learner needs with business priorities.
  • Design and develop interactive eLearning, workshop materials, including the proper training of facilitators.
  • Influence learning organization through knowledge gained from relationships with internal and external customers and partners.
  • Ensure that work leads to qualified and ready employees.
  • Responsible for the relationship with business partner representing CLS and ensuring completion of all deliverables including execution of training administration for proper training assignment for employees.
  • Develop, implement an evaluation strategy that measures the effectiveness of the learning materials.
  • Utilize learning retention tools to enhance engagement and learning retention.

Portfolio Management:

  • Create clear project charters, statements of work and/or design documents/templates that lead to actionable work direction for learning projects
  • Work with partners to create and/or update learning materials
  • Effectively plan and prioritize work while making trade-offs for maximum impact
  • Establish and oversee program budget
  • Manage portfolio of projects - deliver quality on time and on budget
  • Anticipate and resolve project/program issues; escalate as appropriate
  • Create, review, and oversee execution of implementation and communication plans
  • Ensure that appropriate reviews and approvals are gained prior to distribution.
  • Evaluate effectiveness of learning interventions and share with key stakeholders
  • Exploits Lilly learning platforms and guide business partners on decisions that lead to the most effective learning outcomes
  • Design qualification approach based on business requirements and prevailing procedures.
  • Partner for effective timely implementation of learning interventions

Engagement and Prioritization:

  • Represents and serves as liaison between business partners.
  • Respect and leverage project team expertise that encourages collaboration, innovation, and commitment (Team Lilly)
  • Defines what is and what is not important; makes the necessary tradeoffs in order to maintain focus on accomplishing the goal.
  • Ensures alignment between the goals of the business, and key stakeholders
  • Creates a safe environment where all team members feel they can share their unique opinions and ideas (Team Lilly)
  • Decides and acts promptly, using good judgment and anticipates/removes obstacles that get in the way of progress
  • Supports efforts to implement - maximizing efficiency, effectiveness and to deliver excellence in quality standards.

Client Management:

  • Appropriately challenge business leaders to use learning as a strategic lever
  • Utilize expertise to influence governance and leadership to adopt varying viewpoints when necessary to make the most appropriate learning decisions.
  • Collaborate and influence key stakeholders to do ‘the right thing’ using data to make decisions.
  • Collect business partner and end learner feedback to surface opportunities for improvement.
  • Participates and supports transformational activities as determined.

Basic Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 5 years of experience of strategic learning and development (ADDIE) and consultation within a learning and development function
  • 2 years of experience leading and/or designing and delivering/facilitating learning solutions across multiple platforms (virtual, F2F, webcast, teleconference, etc.)
  • Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to be employed in the United States. Lilly does not anticipate providing sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H-1B or TN status) for this employment position


Additional Skills/Preferences:

  • M.S. in Instructional Systems Technology, Performance Technology, Adult Learning or related experience/education/certification
  • Demonstrated track record of Learning Agility
  • Proven track record of bringing innovation in from external sources
  • Proven ability to influence and partner across all areas of the business unit/function, cross-functionally, and at all levels
  • Experience in the use of agile methodology (rapid pace and evolving content development)
  • Passion and ability to collaborate effectively with global teams virtually
  • Experienced leading teams to deliver learning projects
  • Experience/technical skills in the use various learning platforms/applications. (Storyline 360/RISE, eLearning, video, virtual platforms, SharePoint, etc.)
  • Sales, Marketing and Medical working knowledge
  • Ability to effectively partner globally
  • Strong organizational skills
